Rafique Ullah and Rahman are expected to make their second court appearance this morning.
The two suspects appeared before the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court last week after allegedly attempting to bribe community activist Edmond Mbetse of Speak Out Phalaborwa.
The two Bangladeshi citizens allegedly offered Mbetse R10,000 to convince the family of a 10-year-old victim who was raped by Akter Hosain (36) in May 2022
Mbetse claimed that the two suspects promised to give the family of the victim R15 000 to drop the charges against, Hosain.
Mbetse has allegedly lured the suspects and they were arrested. The two suspects were remanded in custody until Friday 10 June.
Mbetse urges members of the Ba-Phalaborwa community to convene in large numbers outside the court to influence the state to refuse bail for the suspects.
Meanwhile, Hosain’s case has been postponed to 20 June in order to confirm his documents with the Department of Home Affairs.
