The police in Giyani have arrested the mother of a 5-year-old girl and her boyfriend after the toddler’s lifeless body was found in one of their besides rooms at Dingamazi village in the outskirts of Giyani.
Police say they were busy with their routine on Monday when they got information about a suspicious murder and reacted swiftly.
On their arrival, they discovered that a suspicious room which was locked could be where the body of the child might be kept.
“We had to force a window open where we discovered a lifeless body of the child. We immediately summoned the EMS where the child was certified dead on the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to Nkhensani Hospital mortuary where a postmortem will be conducted.
“The mother of the child, was immediately detained for questioning and her explanation hadn’t satisfy the police.
“She told the police that she went to Beleview from the day her child went missing to collect the school transfer for her to attend school at Dingamazi.
“The mother says she came back from Beleview the very same day, last Wednesday and discovered that her child wasn’t at home. When she asked her boyfriend, he told her that her child went to Gauteng with his nephew and she will attend the school there.
“She further alluded that she confronted her boyfriend about the locked room which was besides and the boyfriend claimed that the keys to the room are missing. She claims that the room was locked since last Wednesday.” Added Rikhotso.
Rikhotso says at this stage isn’t yet clear if the child was raped before she was murdered, however further investigation will reveal.
“The child wasn’t reported missing till she was found dead on Monday. A case docket of murder has been opened and a 34-year-old and 24-year-old suspects have been arrested.
“The mother had to open the inquiry docket of missing person with us. We need to find out if she is involved in this murder or not. Why she didn’t report that there’s a room that is always locked and she has a child missing.
“When the grandmother of the child called her to speak to the child she kept on telling the lies.” Concluded Rikhotso.
