A Medical Doctor and Senior Clinical Manager for Limpopo Department of Health, Dr Mike Ramothwala opened up about the alcohol related trauma cases.

Dr. Ramothwala on Sunday, 10 January 2021 tweeted that- Doctors and nurses are emotionally and physically exhausted from treating COVID-19 patients.

“If SAB wins its battle to lift the #AlcoholBan they must come and also treat the alcohol related trauma cases because we currently don’t have the energy to deal with two pandemics”.

Dr. Ramothwala’s tweet surfaced after South African liquor traders are pleading with government to lift the current restriction on the sale of alcohol on 15 January 2021.

They say the industry cannot survive another long ban on alcohol sales. It is the third time the industry has had to close down due to lockdown. Liquor traders say there could be more job losses.

Limpopo has 8593 active cases and 677 fatalities.
