Twenty (20) suspects who were part of the twenty three (23) arrested following vigilante and mob justice incidents that took place at Gandlanani village in Giyani on Sunday, 18 October 2020 have today appeared in the Giyani Magistrate’s court on charges of murder, arson, malicious damage to property and Public violence.
Limpopo police say, three other suspects were released after the available evidence could not link them to the crimes committed.
19 males and one female made their first court appearance:
Oscar Mabunda (25), Lesley Maluleke (30), Robert Ngobeni (31), Eddy Ngobeni (36), Hlulani Chabalala (28), Rodney Makhubele (32), David Ndlovu (38), Winners Ngobeni (25), Claud Mabunda (25), James Mahumani (38),Katekani Baloyi (37), Sebenzile Mathebula (38), Organize Baloyi (26), Sevha Makhubele (47), Isaiah Mabasa (35), Orlando Shishoke (32),Nkosinathi Vukeya (22), Easy one Mbhiza (20) and Katetani Mbhiza 40 (female).
“A Sangoma who was allegedly consulted by the community about the still missing Mahlori Maluleka before they went on the rampage, was taken in for questioning and thereafter released.
“All 20 suspects were denied bail and their cases were postponed to 27 October 2020 for further police investigations”, added Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
