Limpopo police say, the victim who was rescued after he was severely assaulted and set alight by the angry mob at Gandlanani village in Giyani on Sunday, has succumbed to injuries in hospital.
“The attempted murder charge will now be changed to murder.
“The victim was identified as Simon Maluleke (52) and was an employee at Vahlavi Bricks which was also the target of the mob justice incidents that took place yesterday.
“The police have initially arrested 23 suspects and out of this number, 21 have been directly linked with the crimes and charged. Two have been released after they could not be linked.
“The suspects, aged between 19 and 52 will appear in Giyani magistrate court on Tuesday, 20 October 2020 on charges of murder, arson, malicious damage to property and public violence.
“The operation is still going on in the area, searching for other suspects with the help of the Airwing. More arrests are expected”, added Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
