Five (05) suspects were arrested last night, 12 November 2020. The suspects are believed to be part of a group of syndicate responsible for a series of robberies in and around Lulekani area outside Phalaborwa.
It is alleged that a group of suspects armed with firearms attacked the local liquor store in the area, robbed employees cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash. They fled the scene with a white bakkie.
Limpopo police said they were summoned and reacted swiftly. The police started with the initial investigations and followed the tracks of these suspects. “The suspects’ vehicle was spotted within the vicinity and police tried to stop it, but they started to shoot at them.
“We retaliated and in the process, two suspects were shot and arrested. The other three suspects were cornered and also arrested.
“During the arrest, two firearms and ammunition, ten (10) cell phones, cash amount of money believed to be part of the items robbed at the liquor store and the getaway vehicle were confiscated.
“These suspects may still be linked to more other similar cases in and around the area as the police investigations are still unfolding.
“They will soon appear before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court facing charges of business robbery, ten (10) counts of attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition”, added Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
The Provincial Commissioner applauded the swift reaction by the Police in Lulekani which led to this milestone achievement.
