The families of the eight (8) children who lost their lives in a horrific car accident on Thursday night on the road towards Selwane are considering a mass funeral.
The families said the mass funeral will give them [parents] and friends enough time to mourn and send their children off with dignity.
On Monday, 18 July 2022, Ba- Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor Cllr. Merriam Malatji accompanied by the Speaker, Cllr Oliver Mabunda, Acting Municipal Manager, Dr Kgoshi Lucas Pilusa and Ward Councillors as well as the Acting Lulekani Police Station Commander, Captain Shadrack Dlamini paid a courtesy visit to the bereaved families.
The Mayor said the Municipality is committed in supporting these families during this trying time. “We are here as the leadership of the Municipality to provide support and comfort to these families. In addition, the Municipality will continue to work closely with these families through our Ward Councillors until the last day”, she said.
Cllr Malatji also stated, it’s clear that: “the mass funeral is in line with the families wishes not that of the Municipality. However, the Municipality will respect and support any decision taken by these families”.
According to the Municipality social workers and psychologists will be dispatched to help the survivors with extensive counselling.
After the two families approve the mass funeral, the official service will be held in the Lulekani Community Hall on Saturday.
